Chapter 4637 Desperate Escape (9)

Chapter 4637 A Desperate Escape (Part 9)

"Blot?! A stain...where is the stain?!" Loki frantically groped around the wall tiles. After seeing the black tile, he pounded on it hard, but found that nothing happened.

He took a few deep breaths, forcing himself to calm down. Not only did he feel no pain in his collarbone, but his mind was also racing. He moved closer and grabbed the torch beside him. The revolving door made a heavy thud as the flame swept across the brick wall.

Whoosh—smack!

"Oh... ptooey... ptooey ptooey..."

Thor, soaking wet, lay on the ground vomiting water. Loki was furious, brandishing his torch and roaring, "You damned bastard! How dare you!!!"

Thor lay sprawled on the ground, then raised his face and smiled at Loki. Loki threw down his torch, dragged him up, and tightened his grip on Thor's neck, saying, "If you dare throw me in here alone again, I'll kill you!!! You bastard!!!"

"Cough cough...cough cough cough..." Thor easily got rid of him, took a few deep breaths, looked at him through his wet hair, and said with a smile, "I told you, you don't have a good memory. You've probably said that thousands of times, and I'm still alive and well."

Loki, enraged, looked around, then grabbed another torch and hurled it at Thor. Thor quickly raised his hands to stop him: "No, no, no! You're a mortal now! Don't burn yourself!"

Loki was clearly furious and had forgotten how to speak English, muttering a bunch of Old Norse curses.

"Alright, alright," Thor quickly comforted him, giving Loki a bear hug, ignoring his struggles, and then stroking his long black hair. "Don't be like that, Loki. I only threw you in here because I knew you could solve it."

"You always do this!! Every single time!!!" Loki's roar was choked with rage. "The last time you fell into the icy lake, and the time before that you were swept away by that man-eating flower, and the time before that..."

Thor grabbed his head and kissed his forehead hard, saying, "But I've never broken my promise, my dear brother. I've always come back, haven't I?"

Loki was so angry he was trembling and speechless. He shoved Thor away, forgetting his injured collarbone, and slammed against the wall, letting out a cry of pain.

Thor rushed forward and helped him up: "Sometimes I really can't understand you, Loki. You've clearly taken tactics classes, but you'll never understand what division of labor means. The forwards should be at the forefront, while the strategists and mages are the ones everyone needs to protect. This isn't because you're weak, but because it's the best tactic of all time, and it works because it's classic."

“I…” Loki gasped for breath, his Adam’s apple bobbing, then said weakly, “I’m not… not like you, getting angry and jumping around because I can’t be strong… you bastard…”

“I understand now. You’re not angry because you’re in the back, but because I’m in the front. But you’ve tricked me into traps several times.”

“I did this just to… to let you know the consequences of your recklessness, you idiot… hiss…”

"Alright, alright, stop talking." Thor helped him sit down.

“Help me over there,” Loki said impatiently. “I need to see what’s written on the wall… what’s written on the wall…”

Thor had no choice but to help him to the door, make him face the wall with the torches, and then pick up the torches from the ground and stick them in. The torches were very durable; they didn't go out even after being waved several times or falling onto the wet ground.

“Remove that side…” Loki commanded him.

Thor then went over and took the torches from one side, then the other. Loki, using the previous pattern, spelled out a word: "'Font'? What's a font?"

“'Font'?” Schiller, holding a torch, stared at the word on the wall. “In religious terminology, it usually refers specifically to a stone Font, filled with holy water for baptism. Of course, in Old English poetry or hymns, it also means 'fountain'…”

“I know, the spring is the ‘place where the water comes from,’ right? We have to go back.” Bruce turned to the door, torch in hand, a knowing look on his face. He raised the torch and waved it over a stained brick; the previously closed door quickly opened.

Schiller also took a torch, and they went through the door again, back to the original two rooms via the passage, and arrived at the room where the water dungeon was located, where they saw the collapsed ceiling. There was a hole in the center of the ceiling, but parts of the surrounding area had not collapsed.

Bruce turned to look at the collapsed wall. He handed the torch to Schiller, then fetched some bricks to stand on. After getting the torch back, he threw it on the wall, stepped onto the bricks, grabbed the edge of the ceiling with both hands, jumped up, pulled himself up, and flipped sideways to the top.

He let out a long breath and said, "It's been too long since I've been Batman, I almost couldn't get up here. Wait a minute, Professor, let me see if there's any rope or something."

He circled the top with the torch in his hand, then quickly brought over a ladder. After lowering it, Schiller climbed up the ladder and also reached the second floor.

It was pitch black here; without torches, you couldn't see your hand in front of your face. Next to the large hole was a fairly spacious room, where the two began searching.

“I told you you underestimated me,” Lucifer said smugly, twirling the key. “If I hadn’t discovered the key was faulty, you might have fallen into a trap.”

"Alright, alright, you're so great, okay?" Anatoly reached for the key, but Lucifer quickly pulled his hand back.

“No, this is a puzzle I solved myself, I want to open the door myself.” With that, Lucifer took the key and walked to the door. He carefully pinched the wooden part of the key and inserted it into the lock.

With a gentle twist, the door spun around. Lucifer was stunned by this amazing way of opening the door, but soon his gaze was drawn to the unknown world behind it, and he turned to step inside.

"Wait……"

Whizzing!

"Ah ah ah ah ah!!!!"

Lucifer screamed and knelt on one knee, blood flowing from his right wing. Anatoly stepped forward and embraced him, turning to look at his right wing, where a gleaming steel needle was embedded.

Lucifer thrashed uncontrollably in pain. If he only had human limbs, it wouldn't be so bad, but the problem was he also had a pair of enormous wings. With this flapping motion, Anatoly was slapped directly to the ground.

"Lucifer!" But he still held onto Lucifer's wings tightly. "Don't move! We have to get that thing off!"

"Uh... ah..."

Lucifer couldn't hear anything, his large wings still flapping incessantly, several feathers falling out. He was as savage as a wild beast caught in a trap, futilely trying to break free from what was causing him pain.

Anatoly wasn't surprised, but rather somewhat helpless, muttering in Russian, "I always recognize your bestiality more clearly than your divinity, angel."

After saying that, he flipped over and pinned Lucifer down, leaving Lucifer unable to move and lying on the ground. Anatoly used one arm to press down on the back of Lucifer's neck and the other arm to press down on the base of his wings.

But Lucifer did not give up struggling and kept trying to get him off him. Anatoly had no choice but to withdraw the hand that was pressing down on the back of his neck, then went around to the front of his neck and tightened it sharply.

"Well!!!!"

Lucifer let out a dying growl, his wings first suddenly contracted, then flapped and trembled violently, before unfolding weakly, like a dying swan.

But Anatoly didn't let go. Only when Lucifer's breathing began to weaken did he slowly release his arm, standing up as he asked, "Are you feeling better?"

Lucifer was only panting and could not answer. At that moment, Anatoly came to his side and began to remove the steel needles from his wings.

Anatoly felt the steel needle among the feathers, and his entire wing trembled violently again, but he could feel Lucifer struggling to remain still. The instant Anatoly pulled the needle out, Lucifer screamed again, his wings flapping wildly. He rolled to his side, tightly wrapping himself in his wings.

Anatoly removed the steel needle, examined it, and then checked the door panel, immediately understanding the purpose of the mechanism. Unfortunately, it was designed for humanoid creatures, and the level designers seemed not to have considered the possibility of wings reaching out first.

It's fortunate that Lucifer had wings. If he hadn't brought his wings and had walked through on his own body, he might have already had his lungs pierced, and death would have been extremely painful.

Anatoly lowered his eyes, rubbed the steel needle with his thumb, and then silently put it into his pocket.

He walked over, knelt before Lucifer, and tapped his shell. Lucifer turned and lay on his back, staring unfocusedly at the ceiling. Anatoly knelt before his head and cupped it in his hands.

"Wake up, Lucifer. It's not time to die yet, wake up..." He kept repeating this until Lucifer came to his senses.

"When people die, they see Satan. So who does Satan see when he dies?" Lucifer said weakly, "...You, you bastard, of course!"

“I wanted to call you back,” Anatoly said. “You were too quick; I didn’t have time to stop you. Promise me, next time, even if there’s a door to cross, don’t spread your wings first, okay?”

Lucifer seemed to realize that he had overreacted. As he slowly got up from the ground, he said, "My wings have never been injured, never!"

Doesn't the time I plucked your feathers count?

Lucifer just rolled his eyes at him.

But when he stood before the door again, Lucifer was clearly still shaken. Anatoly had already slipped past, but Lucifer hesitated, turning left and right, then right and left, as if trying to find an angle where he could walk without having to go in.

“Come quickly,” Anatoly said, “we’ve already wasted too much time. I’m afraid…”
