Chapter 3585 The Lost Fate

Chapter 3585 The Lost Fate

Chapter 3585 The Lost Fate

The appearance of two 13th-ring warlocks together was certainly no small matter, so Shad said to Claire and the others:

"Please step aside for a moment, I'll check the situation here."

"Then you need to be careful."

Claire led the others to temporarily leave. About three minutes later, a group from the Prophet's Association and the Church of the Sun arrived outside the delivery room. However, only four people entered, two of whom were naturally the two thirteen-ring warlocks.

They were taken aback when they saw a strange young man standing there, but quickly realized that he was the "Caller of Gods," so the nun from the third ring said awkwardly:

"This gentleman barged in on his own."

"It's ok."

"It's the blonde Eden with angelic blood," she said, then she and the two behind her went to check on the child's condition.

As for the association's president, Mr. Adelaide Lenormann, who met with Schade yesterday, he remarked:

"I didn't expect you to be so well-informed."

"No, my information is not very good. It's just that the fortune teller I have is very skilled, so it seems you know the reason for this."

The fortune teller, wearing a monocle made of crystal, nodded, his gaze shifting to the baby surrounded by people:

“After hearing about ‘Mr. Snake’ by the fire yesterday afternoon, we informed the church, and the church immediately launched a city-wide search for related clues. As a result, we learned about the child’s family situation.”

He explained:

"Before the New Year's Eve, the child's grandparents both fell ill with a cold and almost lost their lives, but they both recovered after the New Year's Eve. Their recovery was very rapid, and the family's neighbors were curious about what kind of treatment they used. They then learned that they had obtained herbs from the witch doctor in Kyle-Todd town."

However, they had confided in their relatives that they had sought help from some kind of mystical entity. Their relatives, devout believers in the church, immediately informed the church after hearing about the search for clues yesterday.

Xia De roughly understood:

"Did they also encounter 'Mr. Snake'? And wish to pay some kind of price for the two elderly people to recover?"

Mr. Adelaide Le Norman nodded:

"I haven't asked yet, but that's roughly the situation. The fate of the apocalypse involves many things, so this lady with the [Sun Emblem] came with us on behalf of the Church. The Archbishop of the Order of Doom was right when he told you, Mr. Serpent is a completely different being from the remnants of the World Tree in the woods. The latter is merely a remnant of the past, something that should have long since departed, but the former..."

He didn't continue, but Shad understood:

"They are the enemy of the entire world."

But things didn't go as they expected. The church members couldn't figure out what the snake scales on the girl's body meant, requiring further examination. Subsequent questioning of the impoverished couple confirmed that they had indeed sought protection from some strange being in the mountains.

They were city dwellers, but they had heard of the island's indigenous people's worship of the snow-capped mountains. So when their two elderly relatives at home fell seriously ill and had nowhere else to turn, the couple went to the mountains to pray, and then encountered a temple at dusk.

Unlike the encounter with young Clement Kruger, they didn't meet a "Snake Man" dressed in traditional priestly robes, nor did they spin any roulette wheel:

"A serpent, a huge black serpent, was coiled in the temple. Its eyes were bigger than the millstone in Old Gri's house. When it opened its mouth, I thought it was going to eat us, but it asked us if we needed help. It said it had heard our prayers."

We expressed our hope that the elderly person in our family would recover, and it said that would come at a price.

"What did you pay?"

"Child, unborn child. The giant snake called itself 'Mr. Snake,' and it spat out a yellow gem, telling us to take it home and keep it there so that our parents would be healed. I know this is wrong, but we have three children to feed, so we have no choice but to do it."

"why would you say so?"

“My father is a veteran of the Principality of Lagersen. His retirement benefits account for a third of our family’s income. We cannot afford to lose him.”

The different forms of "Mr. Snake" are easy to understand. Clement Kruger is a grammar teacher who has attended university, and such a person should be treated with politeness and friendliness. Therefore, "Mr. Snake" takes on a human form.

For the poor couple who had never left the island, a little fright brought a sense of authority, so it transformed into a giant snake.

In this way, the so-called "roulette" becomes unimportant, but the yellow eye-shaped gem it gives out is very important.

The church has already sent people to retrieve the gem. The couple said that the gem was still a gem in the morning and had not turned into any stone.

"But I still don't understand. If the price they paid was this child, then why was she even born? And why did she have snake-like features?"

The Church of the Sun conducted its investigation and questioning, while Shad and Chairman Le Norman continued their conversation in the hospital corridor. [Snakeheart Hospital] was now partially sealed off; those inside could continue their activities as usual, but no one could leave.

The corridor was quiet, and Chairman Le Norman shook his head.

"I think we'll have an answer soon."

Soon, Elder Zarathustra arrived at the hospital. After greeting Chairman Shad and Chairman Le Norman, he went to check on the child's condition. It was already 11:00 AM. The girl had been born two and a half hours earlier, and more snake scales were appearing on her body. At this rate, all of her skin would eventually be replaced.

And the old man Zarathustra's eyes, which could see through fate, truly provided the answer:

"This child has no destiny."

"You mean, she'll die soon?"

Miss Eden asked, "This is a sorceress who seems very approachable." Whether it was Shad's imagination or not, ladies who wield the power of the sun—such as Iluna, Claire, and this one with the [Sun Crest], and even Mia, who possesses the blood of the "Child of the Sun"—all seem to share this warm, sun-like quality.

The old man Zarathustra shook his head solemnly:

"No, even a dying person has a 'predestined death,' but her fate is blank. To be precise, her fate is rapidly becoming blank. As long as we exist, each of us will have a fate; no one is completely outside of fate."

She is losing her destiny, which means she will cease to exist. I've never encountered anything like this before, and I don't know what she will become afterward. Perhaps she will completely disappear until everyone's memory of her is gone, or perhaps she will become some kind of monster related to destiny.

"Can it be reversed?"

Ms. Eden immediately asked, and old man Zarathustra shook his head:

"Prophets can only glimpse and predict fate, and influence it within a limited scope. We cannot create a person's fate out of thin air; that is something only God can do."

Mr. Lenormann glanced at Shad, but while this involved a life, summoning a god for such a matter was still far-fetched. A god's sudden appearance would involve more than just one life.

"Since you can see her fate slipping away, can you see where it's going?"

"Shadha suddenly asked," the old man Zaratu looked in the direction of the baby again, and then nodded:

"You can only see where fate is flowing within five meters of her. So if you carry her and search, you might be able to find the end of that fate's journey."

"The Temple of Fate?"

Miss Eden asked, at which point a new voice came from behind the group:

"Then go and search. Newborn children should not disappear like this."

The cool voice belonged to Sister Daphne, who "looked" at the child being held by the nun, who had now been soothed to sleep. Even though she was currently busy completing the final preparations before advancing to the thirteenth ring, she absolutely could not ignore what had happened at [Snakeheart Hospital].

The search may lead to a direct confrontation with "Mr. Snake," but to prevent him from abandoning his "destiny" and disappearing without a trace, the two 13-ring members of the hospital, Sister Daphne, and Shad set off immediately with their respective groups, guided by the eyes of the old man Zarathustra.

Meanwhile, the message for help had already been sent to various parts of the island. As the group prepared to enter the mountains, a team of twenty ring mages of eleven rings or higher sent by the Church of the Five Gods, a group of witch followers led by Claire/Megan/Sevie, and high-ranking diviners from the Prophet Association joined them one after another.

Currently, the Church only has Miss Eden of the Sun Crest among the Thirteen Rings on the island. After all, the Principality of Lagson has a Prophet's Association, and in ordinary times, there's no need for additional Thirteen Rings to be stationed there. Furthermore, considering the complexity of the Destiny Story and other troubles in other regions, the Church hasn't yet transferred more Thirteen Ring sorcerers. This isn't due to a lack of regard; Thirteen Rings with angelic blood are already powerful enough.

As for the high-ringed fortune tellers, only five of them came, and Mr. Le Norman admitted that these were the only people on the island:

“I haven’t been able to bring the staff from headquarters yet. I originally planned to have everyone come gradually during the ceremony preparation period, but I didn’t expect things to happen so quickly.”

Even so, they had enough manpower. Shad even wrote to the clown troupe to inquire if they were interested in helping. So, shortly after entering the mountains, these gentlemen wearing clown masks joined the group.

With this, the team now has two 13-ring members, three candidates, plus Sister Daphne, Shad, the witches, numerous high-ring sorcerers, and the unicorn Ellie—little Leona is a registered unicorn at the academy. Even if they can't solve the problem, they should be able to get away unscathed.

The old man, Zaratu, carrying the child wrapped in a bundle, led the group up the snow-capped mountain.
