Chapter 4004 Lemaître's Legacy

Chapter 4004 Lemaître's Legacy

Vige watched as Xia De diligently searched and examined the items inside the box:

"I feel very sorry. If my mother's research could have continued, perhaps she could have successfully created her own Philosopher's Stone."

Then she thought of something else:

"However, my mother did not destroy all the past research records. After I became a Ring Sorcerer, with the help of my teacher, I found the secret alchemy laboratory that my mother had left behind in this area and had been sealed for decades. There were some special alchemical substances in it. Although they could not compare with the real 'Philosopher's Stone', my teacher believed that their properties were somewhat close to that all-purpose alchemical material after examining them."

Xia De exclaimed in admiration:

“That’s truly remarkable. But even though your mother changed her research direction midway, didn’t she still achieve great things?”

"Yes, some of the research findings from the [Jade Record] were transformed into the 'mother fluids' you saw in the underground palace."

Wei Ge hesitated, as if to say something but then stopped:

"Actually, in the last few research records left by my mother, I saw some very taboo content. One research direction was to transform flesh and blood life into a mixture of flesh and spirit; another research result was related to parthenogenesis, which is separate from nature; the most dangerous result was a taboo life reproduction research that attempted to break reproductive isolation. I will not comment on this aspect, after all, my mother has long passed away."

Having been exposed to Laplace Howard's research on the Truth Society, Shad wasn't surprised by this:

Have you tried communicating with her through spirit communication?

Wei Ge shook her head:

“I haven’t tried it. Partly because I don’t want to disturb her peace, and partly because I feel that even if I tried to communicate with her, it would be impossible. After all, my mother still has to be wary of the Jade Alchemy Association finding me, and she wouldn’t easily let someone else communicate with her.”

"Did she leave you any meaningful keepsakes? Like personal jewelry or something?"

Wei Ge nodded:

“I have a pendant, but I’m worried that alchemists will recognize it, so I don’t have the habit of taking it out with me.”

As she spoke, she instructed the maid to retrieve the pendant. Meanwhile, while rummaging through the old items retrieved from the Astley family's former residence, Shad also found something interesting.

The book on the right.

This was a reminder that "she" suddenly gave. It was a fairy tale book that wasn't very thick, titled "100 Bedtime Stories," but it actually only contained 32 stories.

The book looked normal, but when Shad was looking through the table of contents, he found that the 13th story was "The Bloody Deception" that Dorothy and Lacey had chosen for him, so out of curiosity he turned to the corresponding page to take a look.

As a result, in the upper left corner of the page corresponding to the story, he saw a simple line drawing of a "vertical pupil" drawn in dark blue ink.

"Oh?"

Because of the ancient sacred emblem and the "Source of the Fire," Shad was now extremely sensitive to this pattern. He reached out and touched it, feeling a very, very faint trace of its essence. The maid who had gone to fetch the jewelry hadn't returned yet, so Shad took the book and sat down next to Vige.

Have you read this book?

Wei Ge sat up straight and looked at the book cover:

“My mother left behind many books. Although I haven’t read this fairy tale book, I’ve seen it on the bookshelf before. Is there something wrong with this book?”

Shad then unfolded the page that had been stuck in his own fingers:

"Look at this pattern."

"Eye?"

Vige reached out and touched it as well, but her perception wasn't as strong as Xia De's:

“I’m not sure if this was drawn by my mother. When I was examining my mother’s belongings before, I mostly looked through her alchemy notes. I’m sure I’ve seen this book before, but I probably only skimmed through it.”

Shad nodded in understanding. Just then, the maid who had gone to fetch the jewelry returned. The jewelry box, wrapped in red velvet, was small and exquisite. Vig carefully took it, opened it, and showed Shad the blue, vertical pupil-shaped pendant inside.

"This is it. It's made of sapphire. My father wore it until after my mother passed away. It was passed down to me after he died, so strictly speaking, it's a memento from both my parents."

Xia looked at the mark on the book, then at the contents of the jewelry box, and said hesitantly:

"While there may be some coincidence, is it possible?"

He showed her the symbols on the page again, and Viggo finally understood what Shad meant:

"Although I now suspect that my mother left something else, is it really that easy to find it?"

She picked up the pendant and placed the sapphire on the simple drawing on the book's page. The book and the jewelry, which originally contained only extremely subtle elements, resonated simultaneously, detaching from Shad and Viggo's hands and suspending in mid-air.

The symbols on the book emitted a bronze glow, while the gemstone pendant emitted a blood-red glow. Under Vige's dumbfounded gaze, the two merged together.

Crimson and bronze light mingled, and a massive alchemical ritual array appeared in the air, commencing the alchemy process. Finally, the book and pendant vanished, and a simple, antique-looking brass box fell to the ground, much like the disguises often seen on the "treasure chest monsters" in Shad's memories.

Of course, this wasn't a mimicry chest. The chest wasn't very big, about the same size as Shad's "God's Gift Box".

Seeing that Vige didn't react, Xia De reached out and caught it, then exclaimed in admiration:

"The book and the gems were combined to form the box. Was this a pre-set alchemical ritual? The ritual to be triggered was divided into two parts and engraved on two different items. Once the two are close together, the ritual will be activated and the final step of the alchemy will be completed. This method is very ingenious."

"There really is something there?"

Vigé then looked at the box. Of course, this box was not what Ms. Lemaître wanted to keep; it was the contents of the box that were the real reason.

The box was covered in red runes, clearly indicating that it was locked by a rune lock. However, there were three grooves at the top of the box, each with runes written in ancient language below it.

Shad wasn't sure about Vigo's proficiency in ancient languages; he'd never seen similar runes before, but he still translated them:

“From left to right, the three symbols are: [Philosopher's Stone], [Jade Words], and [Blood of the Descendants].

Shad has solved many riddles, and he even has the title of "wise man." The meaning of these three symbols is not difficult to guess:

"It's easy to understand. These are the three keys needed to open the box. They are what your mother considers to be the three greatest achievements of her life: the Philosopher's Stone, the Emerald Book, and you."

Wei Ge was somewhat moved:

"Mother."

"Let's try to open it. The final key is your blood. Your mother probably only wants you or your descendants to open it. The 'Jade Words' probably refers to the thirteen sentences in the 'Jade Record,' but we don't know which sentence we need. We can't just write the sentences on a piece of paper and put it there, can we? That shouldn't be the requirement."

Comparatively speaking, the Philosopher's Stone is the simplest key.

Xia De said, and Wei Ge was puzzled:

"Why? Do you know how to forge the Philosopher's Stone?"

Shad laughed:

"Vie, even if I were incredibly powerful, I wouldn't have that ability. I just happen to have the Philosopher's Stone. But I don't have it with me; I need to go back and get it."

It was still early, so Xia De handed the box to Wei Ge:

"You take a look at it first, I'll go back to get my things and be right back."

With that, Shad tossed out the crystal slipper. It took him twenty minutes to get back from the "Blue Ink Library" after returning home. When Shad reappeared in the study of Fragrant Mansion, he was surprised to find the box floating with a faint glow. The runes on it looked even more intricate than before, and the two grooves on the back of the lid were now lit up.

Miss McDonald had returned by then and was examining the box with great interest. Viggo explained to Shad:

“Eve just suggested that I put my fingers in the groove in the middle and then perform a ‘material transformation’ on this box, which is to use the power I gained after listening to the voice in the soul. I didn’t expect it to work so quickly.”

The third slot uses my blood. Before I actually used my own blood, I had others test it, and none of their blood could activate it.

Shad nodded, while the tall girl said:

"But this also shows that the teacher's mother knew the words in the teacher's soul."

Vigé pursed her lips and remained silent. Miss McDonald didn't think she had said anything wrong; someone had to speak up eventually. Shad didn't say anything, but instead took a sealed test tube from his pocket:

"Here, I also brought the Philosopher's Stone."

Now, thanks to Luvia's research on "Ink of Fate," Shad is adding spirit runes to the ring sorcerers of the church, academy, and the Society of Prophets. Although the amount of Philosopher's Stones he has is still not particularly large, it is at least much more abundant than before.

He didn't know how much the demand would be, so he brought only a third of his reserves. The blood-red substance in the small, sealed glass test tube shone with a magnificent hue in the afternoon sunlight.

Viggo had seen the Philosopher's Stone a long time ago, while Miss McDonald was clearly seeing it for the first time. She exclaimed:

"I have never seen such beautiful alchemical materials. The jewel in the crown of alchemy is indeed well-deserved. I never thought I would have the chance to see this day."

"In the late Fifth Age, those extravagant witch emperors wore the Philosopher's Stone as jewelry. This not only enhanced their spellcasting abilities but also showcased their wealth."

Vigo explained to her students, and then said to Shad:

"I don't know if the Philosopher's Stones you gave me can be recycled, cough cough, cough cough. If these Philosopher's Stones are used up, I won't be able to replenish them for you in the short term."
