Chapter 4250 Speculation and Going Out
Chapter 4250 Speculation and Going Out
Chapter 4250 Speculation and Going Out
The two Viktor ladies were adventurers in the traditional sense, having traveled to countless places together throughout their lives. As for why they came here in their old age, they couldn't remember either.
"If you can't figure out why we came here, then let us die here. That purpose must be important, yes, it must be very important. Rather than go back with regrets, we'd rather stay here forever."
The two elderly women said this, and since they were already nearing the end of their lives, they were clearly prepared for it.
"So, besides us, Ms. Thorne, have you seen anyone else here?"
After talking with the others, Shad asked the witch with the eye ailment, who nodded:
"Yes, some people stayed here for a while and then voluntarily asked the gods to leave. The gods then guided them on the way out, but the price was that they could never appear here again. Some people came and insisted on staying, but later disappeared into the white mist outside for various reasons and never came back."
"Has no one ever been cured?"
"No, someone's wish was granted. It was a mother and daughter; the mother was a witch, and the daughter was her adopted child. Although they both forgot their purpose, the young girl's congenital heart disease was easily noticeable."
So the mother took her daughter to see the gods, who cured the daughter's illness and, bathed in the gods' radiance, awakened her to become a witch.
Ms. Thorne's face lit up with a nostalgic expression:
"Before they left, we cooked a lot of mushrooms together to celebrate the girl's recovery. When they said goodbye to me, they left me all their belongings except their own clothes and wished that I would soon remember my purpose."
That was a very, very long time ago, before the man from that place and those two elderly witches even arrived.
Upon hearing her say this, Shad thought of Miss Metz from the Ash River Valley Academy of Strange Trees. She had also said that she had stayed in that strange place for a very, very long time, and it turned out that she was someone who did not want to leave the Academy of Strange Trees.
Shade then asked:
"If I may ask, do you believe your memories are accurate?"
He then explained:
"Is it possible that you are actually the last priestess or nun in this temple, and because you don't want the temple to be abandoned, you voluntarily stayed forever to receive us visitors?"
"Your idea is bold, but it's not without merit."
Ms. Thorne said, then shook her head after thinking for a moment:
“I went through my memories, and although some of them were lost, I am quite certain that I am not a clergyman and have no real connection with this loving lady. The most inexplicable encounter in my life was actually meeting you.”
This was a difficult question for Shad to answer, but since Ms. Thorne was a normal person, Shad decided to proceed according to the normal procedure:
"You heard my conversation with the gods just now. Can you tell me in detail what you still remember? I'll help you regain your memories."
But Ms. Thorne shook her head:
“My situation is rather complicated. I suggest you choose a simple task first to learn about this place. Since you have already made a promise to God, I am not in a hurry to deal with my own affairs.”
She pointed to the ordinary-looking man, the young man named Leonard Albert:
“You can start with his situation. He sometimes talks to himself in his sleep, and I’ve heard him say that he left his most important ‘luggage’ in the fog outside. If you’re confident, you can try to go out into the fog and retrieve his luggage. I can go with you.”
"Do you have a way to resist the effects of external forgetting?"
Ms. Thorne took a very ordinary kerosene lamp from her luggage:
"The flames here can be taken out with any tool—lanterns, torches, anything. But no matter how many flames we take out, they can only last for a very short time. We must come back before the flames go out, or we may never be able to return."
She used magic to draw a wisp of light from the fire in front of her, and that light ignited the kerosene lamp:
"So, how about we go out and take a look?"
Shad thought for a moment:
"Of course, but are you sure you want to come out with me?"
Ms. Thorne nodded:
"Of course, my senses are weak here because the power of the gods suppresses the power of us mortals. Once I get out, I will still be a twelfth-order witch."
You don't need to worry about my motives. I simply thought that since the deity was willing to wait for me and provide assistance, I wanted to repay this benevolent deity. I had no way to express my gratitude before, but now I want to help you complete your task.
Shad felt once again that this mission was really easy:
"I'll get ready quickly and then we'll set off."
"Okay, I'll also sort out the supplies you brought."
There is still plenty of time. Although there are four companions this time, only one of them can have a serious conversation with Shad, so so far the time spent is not long.
Xia De didn't actually need to prepare anything; he just wanted to experience the power of "sunlight" again.
After leaving the room where the deity resided, the traces of the "divine afterglow" temporarily faded, but the warm feeling throughout his body remained. Even when Shad looked at his wrist, the veins beneath his skin, which should have been bluish, had turned a pale gold.
He believed that if he bit his finger, the blood that seeped out would be golden.
His body temperature was slightly higher than normal, and he could clearly feel the sunlight coursing through his body with each breath and each heartbeat.
Even though he didn't intend to absorb the power from the sunlight, he felt himself slowly getting stronger. This was already quite remarkable for an outsider, and he was only getting stronger because of a single ray of "sunlight."
"The sun represents 'supreme'."
As Xia De pondered this, he looked at his palm. Silver-white lightning crackled, but upon closer inspection, traces of gold could be seen. The powers he possessed related to "lightning" were "Thunder Spear" and "Thunder Wave," and with the blessing of that ray of sunlight, both of these magical techniques displayed the power of the sun.
He had no intention of making that sunlight his own, nor did he intend to merge it into the "Sunfire." Since it was specifically requested from the gods for Wei Ge, then the ownership of that sunlight belonged to Wei Ge.
"However, I had always overlooked the fact that life corresponds not only to 'creation' but also to the sun and the earth."
Xia De thought to himself:
"If the chosen one of the suns could appear before creation, would that one be able to contend with the 'First Child'?"
Do you want to use the sun to evaporate the Sea of Origin?
"She" asked gently.
“If I could do it, I would be happy to do it.”
He made the golden and silver lightning in his hand disappear, and then silver moonlight appeared. The cool moonlight grew warmer and warmer until it completely transformed into golden sunlight. The sunlight appeared in Shad's hand, and he carefully felt this power. He even felt that he could use sunlight as skillfully as he could use moonlight.
After a short preparation, Shad and Ms. Thorne set off. Ms. Thorne only knew the general direction from which Mr. Albert had come, so they could only try their luck in the fog and turn back once the firelight became dim.
As the two left the fire, Ms. Thorne gave Shad some instructions:
"You might encounter strange things from the outside world in the fog, or monsters formed from dissolved memories, but more often than not, you'll encounter hallucinations and auditory hallucinations manifesting from your memories. Remember not to get distracted by things that are familiar to you; as long as you ignore them, they won't come looking for you."
But Xia De asked:
“I didn’t encounter any of these situations before I came to the temple.”
"Situations in this swamp are unpredictable; perhaps you were just lucky. Oh, and if we unfortunately get separated, just remember to follow the direction of the firelight back. The temple's flames are special; you won't mistake them."
Ms. Thorne carried a lantern, while Shad rummaged through the clutter and found a candle, which he lit and let float around him to provide light.
The other three companions didn't react to Shad and Lady Thorne's departure, and after pushing open the door, the two left the temple directly.
The fog was utterly still. While spatial abilities weren't prohibited here, sensory powers were severely restricted, preventing Shad from using "Enhanced Spatial Perception" to understand the surrounding terrain. However, given the chaotic spacetime here, even using extraordinary techniques wouldn't be of much use.
"This way."
Ms. Thorne subconsciously lowered her voice to remind Shad that the fog itself was glowing, and the firelight was not meant to provide light, but rather to push away the thick fog.
Shad followed Ms. Thorne a few steps forward and, as expected, no longer felt any problems with his memory. He originally wanted to continue talking to Ms. Thorne, but out of the corner of his eye, he saw a figure appear on his left side in the direction he was heading.
Shad looked over and saw Sparrow Hamilton standing there.
The witch noticed Shad's slight pause:
Did you see someone familiar, or did you hear a voice?
"You saw my uncle, didn't you?"
"Those are your memories, how could I possibly see them?"
Ms. Thorne led Shad forward, Shad staring at Detective Sparrow, who simply smiled and said nothing even as Shad passed by him.
“You and your uncle must have a very good relationship. Based on past experience, the people who make the most impression here are the first ones people see.”
“Our relationship was only so-so, but when he passed away, he left all his property to me.”
"Then it's not surprising, you're really lucky."
Despite having her eyes covered, Ms. Thorne walked without any difficulty. She had probably explored the fog many times before. Although Shad later saw many figures, including Luvia, and even heard some acquaintances calling for help, Ms. Thorne acted as if she could neither see nor hear anything.
